Daily Devotion: Bible Word - Redeemed by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Galatians 3:6-13 KJV

Key Verse:  "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:"
- Galatians 3:13 KJV

The word redeemed is one of the most beautiful words in the Christian faith. To redeem means to buy back, to rescue, or to pay a price to set someone free. In the Bible, it describes what God has done for us through Jesus Christ. Humanity was enslaved to sin, unable to free itself, but God paid the price for our freedom.

Scripture tells us that redemption came through the sacrifice of Christ.

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.”Ephesians 1:7 (KJV)

Sin separated us from God, and the cost of that sin was death. But Jesus willingly paid that price on our behalf. His blood became the ransom that purchased our freedom. We are not redeemed by our good works, our morality, or our efforts, but by the grace of God.

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold… But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”1 Peter 1:18–19 (KJV)

Being redeemed means our past no longer defines us. The guilt of sin has been removed, and our relationship with God has been restored. We are no longer slaves to sin but children of God. Redemption changes our identity.

King David celebrated this truth when he wrote:

“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies.”
Psalm 103:2–4 (KJV)

Because we are redeemed, we are called to live differently. Our lives become a testimony of God’s mercy and grace. We no longer live for ourselves, but for the One who redeemed us.

“Ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”1 Corinthians 6:20 (KJV)

When we understand redemption, gratitude fills our hearts. We realize that Jesus saw our brokenness, loved us anyway, and paid the price to bring us home.

Conclusion

To be redeemed means you are forgiven, restored, and set free. Your past has been paid for, your future is secured in Christ, and your life now belongs to the One who redeemed you.

Are you Saved?
