Daily Devotion: Jesus Has Delivered My Soul From Death by J.C. Philpot

Bible Reading: Psalm 56:6-13 KJV

Key Verse:  "For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?"
- Psalm 56:13 KJV

You may have been delivered from death, as much as David was, but not so fully in the assurance of the deliverance. God may have quickened your soul into life divine; he may have communicated his grace to your heart, and yet you have many doubts and fears whether it be a real work of grace upon your soul. It is not every child of God who has been delivered from death by regenerating grace, who can use the words with the confidence expressed here--"You have delivered my soul from death."

Daily Devotion: Christ Prepares His Disciples For Persecution by Favell Lee Mortimer

Bible Reading: Matthew 5:11-18 KJV

Key Verse:  "Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake."
- Matthew 5:11 KJV

The sermon which the Lord Jesus preached on the Mount astonished those that heard it. Who would have thought that the persecuted could rejoice? Yet Jesus said, "Blessed are you when men shall revile you." There are a great many different kinds of persecution; but only one of them is mentioned in this place. It is a kind that some might not think very difficult to bear—the persecution of the tongue. "Blessed are you when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake." But those who have endured this kind of persecution, know that it is very painful to the natural feelings. Yet all who follow Jesus must suffer it; for "...if they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?" (Matthew 10:25.)

Daily Devotion: I Long To See You by J. R. Miller

Bible Reading: Romans 1:7-14 KJV

Key Verse:  "For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;"
Romans 1:11 KJV

We ought always to desire to be a blessing to those we love. God sends many of his best spiritual gifts, through human hearts and hands. There could be no fitter morning prayer, as we go out for the day, than that we may be permitted to carry some help, comfort, instruction, inspiration, courage, or cheer—to every life that our life touches. There are always those who need such help. No aim in life is nobler—than to be a help to others in all gentle, quiet ways.

Daily Devotion: A Crown Of Life by John MacDuff

Bible Reading: 1 Peter 5:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away."
- 1 Peter 5:4 KJV

What! is the beggar to be "raised from the ash-heap, set among Princes, and made to inherit a throne of glory?" Is dust and ashes, a puny rebel, a guilty traitor — to be pitied, pardoned, loved, exalted from the depths of despair, raised to the heights of Heaven — gifted with kingly honor — royally fed — royally clothed — royally attended — and, at last, royally crowned? O my soul, look forward with joyous emotion to that day of wonders, when He whose head shall be crowned with many crowns, shall be the dispenser of royal diadems to His people; and when they shall begin the joyful ascription of all eternity, "Unto Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us Kings — to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen."

Daily Devotion: The Most Transformative Word In The Bible by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Romans 10:4-11 KJV

Key Verse:  "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
- Romans 10:9 KJV

Believe is the one word in the Bible that is transformative in that it bridges the gap between human limitations and divine power, leading to salvation, healing, and repairing a damaged relationship with God. As believers, we are called to embrace this transformative word, allowing it to shape our lives and bring about the miraculous works of God.

Daily Devotion: The Unconcerned Spectators by James Meikle

Bible Reading: Romans 9:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart."
- Romans 9:2 KJV

Sorrow is the continual attendant on human life. Every day, to some poor sufferer, is darkened with distress, and yet the spectators are frequently no more concerned, than if the patient were only to set out from the city to his country home. Were a king coming to sit in judgment on a beloved friend of ours, and to examine strictly his actions—with life and death hanging in the balance—could we shake ourselves free from a thousand agitating thoughts? dislodge our bosoms of anxious fears, and many a fervent wish? Now, when a person is pining on a sick-bed, or expiring on a death-bed, the King of kings seems to mount his judgment-throne, and order the spectators into his solemn presence, where the examination will be strict, and the trial issue in eternal life, or eternal death.

Daily Devotion: Christ Our Redemption by Wil Pounds

Key Verse:  "But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:"
- 1 Corinthians 1:30 KJV

In the wisdom of God, the plan of salvation was fully accomplished by the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.   Such wisdom is hidden from the wise and learned of the world, but it revealed to the humble believer of Christ.

Daily Devotion: Jesus Went About Doing Good by Octavius Winslow

Bible Reading: Acts 10:36-43 KJV

Key Verse:  "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him."
- Acts 10:38 KJV

Earnestly would I endeavor to impress upon the reader what Henry Martyn beautifully terms "the pleasure of doing good." Next to direct communion with God, the loftiest and purest source of enjoyment opened to us on earth is found in the expression of human sympathy, in the exercise of Christian benevolence. No selfish pleasure ever brought to the heart the peace, the joy, the happiness which one solitary act of kindness to another did.

Daily Devotion: Without The Shedding Of Blood by Charles Spurgeon

Bible Reading: Hebrews 9:21-28 KJV

Key Verse:  "And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. 9:22"
Hebrews 9:22 KJV

This is the voice of unalterable truth. In none of the Jewish ceremonies, were sins, even typically, removed without blood-shedding. In no case, by no means—can sin be pardoned without atonement. It is clear, then, that there is no hope for me, outside of Christ; for there is no other blood-shedding which is worth a thought—as an atonement for sin. Am I, then, believing in Him? Is the blood of His atonement truly applied to my soul? All men are on a level—as to their need of Him. If we are ever so moral, generous, amiable, or patriotic—the rule will not be altered to make an exception for us. Sin will yield to nothing less potent—than the blood of Him whom God has set forth as an atoning sacrifice.

Daily Devotion: Let Him Hear by J.C. Philpot

Bible Reading: Revelation 2:22-29 KJV

Key Verse:  "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches."
- Revelation 2:29 KJV

These words extend the message beyond the church to which they were spoken, and address themselves to every one to whom the word comes, and to whom an ear is given to hear and receive it. Thus each message sent to the churches becomes a message sent personally to us.

Daily Devotion: The Beatitudes by Favell Lee Mortimer

Bible Reading: Matthew 5:1-10 KJV

Key Verse:  "And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:"
- Matthew 5:1 KJV

The blessed Savior had been just engaged in healing the bodies of men, when he ascended the mountain to preach words that might save their souls. He opened his mouth to speak with a loud voice to the vast multitude. What heavenly words proceeded from those gracious lips! He began with pronouncing blessings; for he came to bless and to save. These eight blessings are called the beatitudes. They are very instructive, because they teach us whom Christ counts happy or blessed.

Daily Devotion: Reason With God by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Isaiah 1:17-24 KJV

Key Verse:  "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
- Isaiah 1:18 KJV

God can sometimes be scary for many people, or abstract for others. What would happen if you received a personal invitation to sit down with God and ask Him anything you wanted to? Or reason through your doubts and pose any challenge; would you be willing to do so?

Daily Devotion: A Bruised Reed He Shall Not Break by J. R. Miller

Bible Reading: Matthew 12:17-24 KJV

Key Verse:  "A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory."
- Matthew 12:20 KJV

It is a high honor that is conferred upon us—when God sends to us human hearts to be comforted, or human souls to be helped. Yet every thoughtful person must tremble as he accepts the responsibility of such delicate and holy work. It is a serious moment when there is brought to a surgeon a case, on the skillful treatment of which, a life depends; or when a physician stands by a bedside to administer remedies at critical illness.

Daily Devotion: A Nightless Heaven by John MacDuff

Key Verse:  "And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there."
- Revelation 21:25 KJV

My soul! is it night with you here? Are you wearied with these midnight tossings on life's tumultuous sea? Be still! The day is breaking! Soon shall your Lord appear! "His going forth is prepared as the morning." That glorious appearing shall disperse every cloud, and usher in an eternal noontide which knows no twilight. "The sun will never set; the moon will not go down. For the Lord will be your everlasting light. Your days of mourning will come to an end!" Everlasting light! Wondrous secret of a nightless world! — the glories of a present God! — the everlasting light of the Three in One, quenching the radiance of all created orbs — superseding all material luminaries!

Daily Devotion: Frames Of Soul Variable by James Meikle

Bible Reading: Philippians 4:6-13 KJV

Key Verse:  "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
- Philippians 4:13 KJV

It is the greatest display of spiritual folly to put any confidence in a holy frame of mind. A frame is a certain heavenly disposition of the soul. Now, to rest on anything in ourselves is, to destroy ourselves; for the noblest attainment is to go wholly outside of ourselves and rest only on Christ. If I do otherwise, I provoke him to remove, by placing the effect of his presence in the place of himself, and then my mountain, which I thought stood so firm, is immediately removed; God hides his face, and I am troubled.

Daily Devotion: Christ Our Redeemer (2) by Wil Pounds

Bible Reading: Mark 10:45-52 KJV

Key Verse: For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
- Mark 10:45 KJV

The most significant word that describes the death of Christ for sinful man is redemption. It means, “buying again,” or “buying back.” In the Bible it is used especially of purchasing a slave with a view of setting him free. It signifies a release procured by the payment of a ransom price.

Daily Devotion: God That Justifies by Octavius Winslow

Bible Reading: Romans 8:32-39 KJV

Key Verse:  "Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth."
- Romans 8:33 KJV

Behold the eternal security of the weakest believer in Jesus. The act of justification, once passed under the great seal of the resurrection of Christ, God can never revoke without denying Himself. Here is our safety. Here is the ground of our dauntless challenge, "Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? It is God who justifies." What can I need more? What more can I ask?

Daily Devotion: Your Love To Me Was Wonderful by Charles Spurgeon

Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 1:20-27 KJV

Key Verse:  "I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women."
- 2 Samuel 1:26 KJV

Come, dear readers, let each one of us speak for himself of the wonderful love, not of Jonathan—but of Jesus. We will not relate what we have been told—but the things which we have tasted and handled of the love of Christ.

Daily Devotion: The Power and Responsibility of the Tongue by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Proverbs 18:17-24 KJV

Key Verse:  "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof."
- Proverbs 18:21 KJV

The tongue, though small, holds immense influence over our lives and the lives of those around us. It can build up and tear down, heal and harm, encourage and discourage. The words we speak are not merely sounds; they carry weight and can shape the lives of others and ourselves. As Proverbs 18:21 above reminds us, the tongue holds the power of both death and life. This truth calls for careful attention to what we say, as our words reflect the condition of our hearts and have the ability to influence the world around us.

Daily Devotion: Many Mansions by J.C. Philpot

Bible Reading: John 14:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."
- John 14:2 KJV

O that we could lift our eyes to those blest abodes, those mansions of heavenly bliss, where no sorrow intrudes, where sin is unknown, where tears are wiped from off all faces, where there is no languishing body, no wasting sickness, no pining soul, no doubt, fear, darkness or distress; but one unmingled scene of happiness and pleasure, and the whole soul and body are engaged in singing the praises of God and the Lamb!

Daily Devotion: The Multitude Sought To Touch Jesus by Favell Lee Mortimer

Bible Reading: Luke 6:17-23 KJV

Key Verse:  "And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all."
- Luke 6:19 KJV

We have just read how Jesus spent a whole night in prayer, and in the morning chose his twelve apostles. After choosing them he came down from the mountain, and found a vast multitude collected together in a plain beneath.

Daily Devotion: Jesus Did Not Answer A Word by J. R. Miller

Bible Reading: Matthew 15:22-29 KJV

Key Verse:  "But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us."
Matthew 15:23 KJV

Who has not come to Christ with a burden, crying out for help or for relief—only to find him silent? To many of our earnest supplications, he seems not to answer a word. We are told to ask—and we shall receive, to seek—and we shall find, to knock—and it shall be opened unto us. Yet there come times when we ask imploringly, and do not seem to receive; when, though we seek with intense eagerness, we do not seem to find what we seek; when we knock at the door of prayer until our hands are bruised and bleeding, and there is no opening of the door.

Daily Devotion: A Joyful Resurrection by John MacDuff

Key Verse:  "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."
- 1 Corinthians 15:52 KJV

Marvel of marvels! The sleeping ashes of the sepulcher — springing up at the blast of the archangel's trumpet! The dishonored dust — rising into a glorified body, like its risen Lord's!

Daily Devotion: After Sickness by James Meikle

Bible Reading: Revelation 21:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
- Revelation 21:4 KJV

What shall I render unto the Lord for all his kindness unto me! The sorrows of death compassed me about, the pains of the grave took hold on me; my feeble joints were made to smite together; disease attacked every part, and rapidly prevailed. My eyes, with languid looks, spoke forth my inward trouble. My throbbing heart spread sense of pain through every member, and vexing dreams disturbed my night's repose. But what was all this to that confusion my sympathizing soul was in? No composure there. I could not meditate with calmness on my final change—which seemed to await me; nor could I enquire aright into the case of my soul—which I thought would soon be dislodged from this body, and brought before the bar of God.

Daily Devotion: Christ Our Redeemer by Wil Pounds

Bible Reading: Ephesians 1:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;"
- Ephesians 1:7 KJV

We have been redeemed through the precious blood of Jesus Christ. He paid an infinite price for our salvation. The price of redemption is the death of Jesus Christ. That is the inescapable fact in the Old and New Testament. The idea of redemption comes from the ancient Greek marketplace. The word agorazo means "to buy," or "to buy in the marketplace." In the New Testament the word places the emphasis on the price Jesus paid to redeem us.

Daily Devotion: The Bible Verse That Satan Fears The Most by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Luke 9:20-27 KJV

Key Verse:  "And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."
- Luke 9:23 KJV

Satan is not afraid of you going to church, not even a good church. He does not fear you reading Godly books, or listening to sound Bible podcasts. Nor does he fear you spending time with Godly Christians. All of this is fine with him, as long as you do not put what you are hearing and learning into action by daily picking up your cross and following Jesus.

Daily Devotion: Glorify The Lord In The Fires by Octavius Winslow

Bible Reading: Isaiah 24:12-19 KJV

Key Verse:  "Wherefore glorify ye the Lord in the fires, even the name of the Lord God of Israel in the isles of the sea."
- Isaiah 24:15 KJV

Great is the glory brought to our incarnate God by the sanctified afflictions of His saints. How deep these often are, let many testify; and yet the deeper the affliction, the deeper the glory. Behold the glory brought to God by Daniel in the den of lions; by Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace; and by Paul and Silas in the prison. And what is their history but a type of all the afflicted members of God's family? The Lord will be glorified in His people: therefore does He afflict, and try, and chasten them.

Daily Devotion: They Shall Sing In The Ways Of The Lord by Charles Spurgeon

Bible Reading: Psalm 138:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the Lord: for great is the glory of the Lord."
- Psalm 138:5 KJV

The time when Christians begin to sing in the ways of the Lord—is when they first lose their burden at the foot of the Cross. Not even the songs of the angels seem so sweet, as the first song of rapture which gushes from the inmost soul of the forgiven child of God! You know how John Bunyan describes it. He says when poor Pilgrim lost his burden at the Cross, he gave three great leaps, and went on his way singing, "Blessed Cross! blessed Sepulcher! blessed rather be the man who there was put to shame for me!"
