Daily Devotion: Sin Is Still Sin in God’s Eyes by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Romans 12:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
Romans 12:2 KJV

The world we live in today celebrates what God calls sin. What was once shameful is now flaunted; what was once condemned is now praised. Society may legalize it, normalize it, and even call it “progress,” but God’s Word has not changed. Just because society accepts it, that does not make it right. Sin is still sin in God’s eyes.

The Israelites were warned not to follow the customs of the nations around them (Leviticus 18:3), and yet today, many who claim Christ have embraced the world’s standards. Homosexuality, fornication, drunkenness, greed, pride, abortion and rebellion against God’s order are now accepted—even in some churches. But God’s judgment remains the same: “The soul that sinneth, it shall die” (Ezekiel 18:20).

We must remember:

  • God’s Law Stands Forever — “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven” (Psalm 119:89). No court ruling, cultural shift, or popular opinion can alter what God has declared.
  • Truth Is Not Determined by Majority Vote — Just because “everyone is doing it” doesn’t make it right. “Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil” (Exodus 23:2).
  • We Will Answer to God, Not Society — “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God” (Romans 14:12).
  • Never Call Evil Good, And Good Evil —  “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20)
  • Do What Is Right In God's Eyes — “Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes.” — (Deuteronomy 12:8)

In conclusion, just because society accepts certain behaviors doesn't make them right in God's eyes. We must remain vigilant in our walk with God, seeking His righteousness and not the approval of the world. We follow who we love. God's word makes it clear who we should follow in 1 John 2:15, Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
