Daily Devotion: The Two Most Powerful Words In The Bible by J.E. Smith


Bible Reading: Matthew 4:18-25 KJV 

Key Verse:  "And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."

Words are powerful. Throughout time people have spoken words that changed the course of history. Some were spoken during times of crisis while others were spoken to inspire greatness. Speech as a means of communication is the most effective tool God created for people. Consider these powerful secular quotes:

John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address (January 20, 1961) where he stated, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country.” This challenged every American to contribute in some way to the public good. 

In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson wrote, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." This forever established the equality of man as created by God.

General MacArthur balked at the President Franklin Roosevelt's request to leave the island of Corregidor, but when he was ordered to do so, he had to oblige. When he left, MacArthur vowed, “I shall return,” and he did.

You can probably think of many others, but none compare to two words that Jesus uttered when he called his Disciples, "Follow Me." (Matthew 4:18-22) These two words not only changed their lives, but the lives of all those that were saved after them. In a devotionals we will explore why those that followed him immediately dropped everything, got up and followed Him.
