Daily Devotion: You Are More Than A Body by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Luke 12:22-29 KJV

Key Verse:  "The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment."
- Luke 12:23 KJV

In a world that often promotes the idea that human life is nothing more than a random accident, it can be easy to feel insignificant and without purpose. However, the Bible paints a very different picture of our existence, revealing that we are not a meaningless accident but a beloved creation of a purposeful and loving God.

Deep in your heart you know that there is more to you than just flesh, blood and randomly evolved biological substances. You must understand that there is much more to you than what you shave, shower and dress every morning.

Jesus said, as noted in our key verse above, "The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment." Again God said in His Word, "...I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Thessalonians 5:23)

Why is being more than a body important?

Well, first of all, this means that you have more than death to anticipate! If you are just a body, then all you have to look forward to is death. How could anybody really be happy if that is all the future holds? If death is your ultimate destination, why would anything else matter?

Secondly, it means you have value. If you are more than a freak biological accident, then you must have been created. If you are created, then you have value to your Creator. He made you for a reason; a purpose. You have significance and meaning, and life is more than random events strung together by fate.

As we navigate the challenges and trials of life, we can find comfort and hope in the truth that we are not a meaningless accident but a beloved creation of a purposeful and loving God. We are not defined by the world's standards or the opinions of others, but by the truth of God's Word, which declares that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. We are created in His image, and are called to a life of purpose and significance.

Thirdly, it means you have hope. There is more than just physical life and death. There is hope that you can get past your present difficulties and someday enter into something far better!

May we be a people who embrace our identity as God's beloved creation, living lives that reflect His character and bring glory to His name. As we do so, we will find ourselves growing in our faith, experiencing the power of the Holy Spirit, and becoming more like Christ, reflecting His love and truth to a world in desperate need of hope and redemption.
