Daily Devotion: Pride Is A Snare by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Psalm 59:10-17 KJV

Key Verse:  "For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak."
- Psalm 59:12 KJV

Pride is a dangerous trap that can ensnare us, leading us away from God and causing us to stumble in our spiritual journey. The Bible warns against the dangers of pride, reminding us of the consequences of an arrogant spirit. As we explore the impact of pride on our lives, let us turn to the wisdom of the Holy Scriptures for guidance and insight.

The sin of pride is a snare that draws us in and makes it difficult for us to ever escape. Proverbs 11:2a tells us, "When pride cometh, then cometh shame:" Then the question is how do we handle a situation that potentially shames us?

At some point we will stumble and appear human and less than perfect, pride will offer us an escape path - a little white lie that will cover our misstep. We tell ourselves that no one will know because we think they will believe anything we say; after all, a person filled with pride believes that everyone loves them.

Pride is a snare because it blinds us to our own weaknesses and limitations. When we are consumed by pride, we believe that we are invincible and that we have all the answers. This mindset is dangerous, as it hinders our spiritual growth and separates us from God's loving guidance. As the Apostle Paul writes in 1 Timothy 3:6 KJV, "Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil."

Pride is a trap that can ensnare us at any moment, leading us down a path of destruction and separation from God. It is a subtle and insidious sin that can creep into our hearts, deceiving us into thinking we are superior to others and deserving of praise and recognition. It is a gateway sin that can lead us to partake in other sins, such as lying and even adultery. Consider all the powerful people that have fell into adulterous sins because they felt justified because they deserved it. As Ravi Zacharias now knows, "be sure your sin will find you out." (Numbers 32:23b KJV)
