Daily Devotion: After Grace — Glory by John MacDuff

Bible Reading: Psalm 84:5-12 KJV

Key Verse:  "For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly."
- Psalm 84:11 KJV

Oh! happy day: when this toilsome warfare will all be ended — Jordan crossed — Canaan entered — the multitude of enemies of the wilderness no longer dreaded — sorrow, sighing, death, and, worst of all, sin, no more either to be felt or feared! Here is the terminating link in the golden chain of the everlasting covenant. It began with predestination; it ends with glorification. It began with sovereign grace in eternity past, and no link will be lacking until the ransomed spirit is presented faultless before the throne!

Daily Devotion: The Disposal Of Providence Always Best by James Meikle

Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)"
- 2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV

Why would I still take the government of myself out of your hand, and choose according to my fond desires? Can my ignorance penetrate through the thick darkness of futurity? Who would choose a blind mad-man to guide him through some lonely ways and intricate meanders, with which neither the traveler nor the guide are acquainted in the least: since he might lead him where he desires, and stab him as he strays?

Daily Devotion: All Scripture Is Given By Inspiration Of God by Wil Pounds

Bible Reading: 2 Timothy 3:10-17 KJV

Key Verse:  "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:"
- 2 Timothy 3:16 KJV

The apostle Paul accepted the fact that the Word of God was inspired, incorruptible, indestructible and indispensable. Since “all Scripture is inspired by God,” then no scripture is uninspired. It is God-breathed, breathed into by God, or inspired.

Daily Devotion: Take No Thought For Tomorrow by Octavius Winslow

Bible Reading: Matthew 6:27-34 KJV

Key Verse:  "Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."
- Matthew 6:34 KJV

It is a matter of much practical importance, that you take heed not to anticipate or to forestall the promised grace. For every possible circumstance in which you may be placed, the fullness of Christ and the supplies of the covenant are provided. That provision is only meted out as the occasions for whose history it was provided occur.

Daily Devotion: Do You Forget My Cross by Charles Spurgeon

Bible Reading: Song of Solomon 1:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee."
- Song of Solomon 1:4 KJV

Jesus will not let His people forget His love. If all the love they have enjoyed should be forgotten, He will visit them with fresh love. "Do you forget my cross?" says He, "I will cause you to remember it; for at My table I will manifest Myself anew to you. Do you forget all I did for you in the council-chamber of eternity? I will remind you of it, for you shall need a counselor, and shall find Me ready at your call." Mothers do not let their children forget them. If the boy has gone to Australia, and does not write home, his mother writes, "Has John forgotten his mother?" Then there comes back a sweet letter, which proves that the gentle reminder was not in vain.

Daily Devotion: Do You Filter The Words Of Jesus? by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Matthew 24:27-35 KJV

Key Verse:  "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away."
- Matthew 24:35 KJV

A sepia filter is a digital processing technique that simulates the warm, brownish tone characteristic of traditional black-and-white photographs from the early days of photography. The term “sepia” refers to the rich brown pigment derived from the ink sac of the common cuttlefish, Sepia officinalis. This filter gives images a nostalgic, vintage appearance, it enhances the overall mood and atmosphere of a photograph and create a distinctive, artistic look. Put another way, it changes reality to what the photographer thinks is best; the end result resembles, but does not match reality.

Daily Devotion: He Opened Their Understanding by J.C. Philpot

Bible Reading: Luke 24:44-51 KJV

Key Verse:  "Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,"
- Luke 24:45 KJV

Blessed opening, when He that has the key of David puts in his hand by the hole of the door, and opens our heart to receive his own word. Then when we go to the Word of Truth, after it has come to us, our fingers drop with sweet-smelling myrrh upon the handles of the lock. It is said that "the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live." O, to hear the voice of the Son of God in our hearts! Surely it shall make our dead hearts, cold frames, withering hopes, drooping love, dying faith, languishing prayers, and fainting minds live; yes, revive as the grain, and grow as the vine.

Daily Devotion: The Healing Of The Nobleman's Son by Favell Lee Mortimer

Bible Reading: John 4:46-54 KJV

Key Verse:  "So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum."
- John 4:46 KJV

Some of the Samaritans were longer in believing than others. Some believed on account of the woman's testimony, others—not until they had heard him themselves. We know it is best to believe without hesitation, for Jesus once said, "Blessed are those who have not seen, and yet have believed." You remember how readily Mary believed the angel's message; and Elizabeth said to her, "Blessed is she who believes, for there shall be a performance of the things told her of the Lord." But though some of the Samaritans were slow in believing—after they believed, they were bold in confessing their faith. They said, "We know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world." O what a title that is! The Savior of the "world;" not of Jews only, but of SAMARITANS also, of some of every kindred and of every nation. May we all know him as our Savior. We shall never truly love him until we know him, not only from report, but from experience. How different is the state of that person who only knows Jesus from what others have said of him—from his state who has received answers to his own prayers, and felt that his own sins are forgiven!

Daily Devotion: Great Is Thy Faithfulness by J. R. Miller

Bible Reading: Lamentations 3:21-28 KJV

Key Verse:  "They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."
- Lamentations 3:23 KJV

It is the glory of God's love, that it is always fresh and new. It is never the same in its expression in any two days. We have to patch up our old things and keep them, using them again and again; but God never does. He never gives us the old leaves a second time; each spring, every tree gets new foliage, new garments of beauty. He does not revive last year's withered flowers, and give them to us again for this year; he gives us new flowers for each summer.

Daily Devotion: Dying Grace by John MacDuff

Bible Reading: Revelation 1:13-20 KJV

Key Verse:  "I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death."
- Revelation 1:18 KJV

And from whom could dying grace come so welcome — as from You, O blessed Jesus? Not only is Your name, "The Abolisher of Death;" but You Yourself have died! You have sanctified the grave by Your own presence, and divested it of all its terrors.

Daily Devotion: Communion With God, What It Is by James Meikle

Key Verse:  "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen."
2 Corinthians 13:14 KJV

Communion with God is an expression often in my mouth—but which sinks no further. I may know the word—but neither its blessed import, nor glorious extent. My prayers and practice jar; for while I beg it with my lips, I study not to attain it in my life. Ah! what a stranger am I to that which I would gladly have flattered myself that I am acquainted with! Alas what do I know of walking with God—of that joy which is found in believing? What do I know of the lasting and abiding impressions of his inexpressible love! What do I know of that transforming vision, and assimilating sight which is enjoyed below, whereby the soul is changed into God's image, from glory to glory! What do I know of dwelling in his presence all the day long! What of pouring out my soul in prayer to him! and wrestling with him for the blessing! How seldom is my meditation of him sweet!

Daily Devotion: Bible and our Sanctification by Wil Pounds

Bible Reading: Ephesians 6:5-12 KJV

Key Verse:  "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
- Ephesians 6:12 KJV

Almost everything we do daily ultimately involves spiritual warfare. Are we depending on the human weapons, or the spiritual weapons God has provided?

Our battle is not with flesh and blood (Eph. 6:10; Matt. 16:18). No battle with the unseen is easy. We cannot fight such a spiritual battle with carnal weapons.

Daily Devotion: Are You Bringing Forth Much Fruit by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: John 15:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing."
- John 15:5 KJV

Our Key Verse above is a powerful message that teaches us about the importance of remaining connected to Jesus Christ, the true vine, in order to bear much fruit. John 15:4 states, "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me." This lets us know that we can not bear fruit without Jesus Christ abiding in us.

Daily Devotion: He Will Reprove The World Of Sin by Octavius Winslow

Bible Reading: John 16:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:"
John 16:8 KJV

This is the great office of the Spirit- this is His first work, prior to His bringing the soul to rest on the great sacrifice for sin. Not a step will the soul take to Christ, until that soul has been brought in guilty and condemned by the law of God. And this is the work of the Spirit. "No man," says the excellent Newton, "ever did or ever will feel himself to be a lost, miserable, and hateful sinner, unless he is powerfully and supernaturally convinced by the Spirit of God."

Daily Devotion: Why Christ Chosen Out Of The People by Charles Spurgeon

Bible Reading: Psalm 89:17-24 KJV

Key Verse:  "Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people."
- Psalm 89:19 KJV

Why was Christ chosen out of the people? Speak, my heart, for heart-thoughts are best. Was it not that He might be able to be our brother, in the blessed tie of kindred blood? Oh, what relationship there is between Christ and the believer! The believer can say, "I have a Brother in heaven; I may be poor—but I have a Brother who is rich, and is a King, and will He allow me to lack, while He is on His throne? Oh, no! He loves me; He is my Brother!" Believer, wear this blessed thought, like a necklace of diamonds, around the neck of your memory; put it, as a golden ring, on the finger of recollection, and use it as the King's own seal, stamping the petitions of your faith with confidence of success. He is a brother born for adversity, treat Him as such.

Daily Devotion: Anchors Of Different Sizes by J.C. Philpot

Bible Reading: Hebrews 6:13-20 KJV

Key Verse:  "Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;"
Hebrews 6:19 KJV

Anchors, you know, are made of different sizes. You may walk in the Queen's Dockyard, and there you may see anchors for a boat, and anchors for a three-decker. Yet all anchors are made in the same way, and are designed for the same purpose; and the little anchor that holds the boat is as useful and as much an anchor as that which holds the three-decker. So spiritually. There is hope in the heart of the spiritual babe. But the hope in the heart of a babe is but as the anchor of a boat; yet it holds that babe as firmly as the anchor holds the boat to which it is moored.

Daily Devotion: The Spiritual Harvest by Favell Lee Mortimer

Bible Reading: John 4:25-38 KJV

Key Verse:  "Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest."
- John 4:35 KJV

The ignorant Samaritan woman was much struck with the conversation of the stranger sitting by the well. It put her in mind of the promise she had heard of a Messiah, who would come into the world and instruct men. She seems at length to have desired instruction. She said, "When he has come, he will tell us all things." He has come already, and has told us all things. Are there not some here who love his words, and desire to keep them?

Daily Devotion: You Are My Hiding Place by J. R. Miller

Bible Reading: Psalm 32:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah."
- Psalm 32:7 KJV

God is a hiding-place from all sorts of dangers. He is a hiding-place from sin. His mercy is an eternal refuge. "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus."

Daily Devotion: Persevering Grace by John MacDuff

Bible Reading: Job 17:9-16 KJV

Key Verse:  "The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger."
- Job 17:9 KJV

Reader! How comforting to you amid the ebbings and flowings of your changing history — to know that the change is all with you, and not with your God! Your spiritual vessel may be tossed on waves of temptation, in many a dark midnight storm. You may think your Pilot has left you, and be ready continually to say, "Where is my God?"

Daily Devotion: What Does Jesus Expect From Us by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Mark 10:23-31 KJV

Key Verse:  "Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee."
- Mark 10:28 KJV

Jesus gave his all on the cross so that we have the opportunity to be saved. Works are not a part of our salvation, but there is an expectation on Jesus' part for our lives. Jesus is indeed God, who took on flesh to become the only worthy sacrifice for our sins. Let that sink in for a moment.

Daily Devotion: Death by James Meikle

Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."
- 2 Corinthians 5:8 KJV

If there is a time to rejoice, there is also a time, yes, many a time to mourn. And God has set the one over against the other, that men may not forget eternal realities. This day I have attended the funeral of a friend, who is carried away from his weeping widow, and fatherless children, who all bewail him; yes, sighs may be heard, and sorrow seen in the countenances of his loved ones.

Daily Devotion: Believer’s Vital Union with Christ by Wil Pounds

Bible Reading: John 15:9-16 KJV

Key Verse:  "Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you."
- John 15:15 KJV

The relationship between Christ and the believer “is the nearest, dearest, closest, most intense, and most enduring relationship that can be imagined,” said Spurgeon. We live because Christ lives, and our lives are hid with Christ in God. It is closer than a husband and wife, or children and their parents. One of the greatest mysteries in the Bible is the believer’s vital relationship to his Lord and Savior.

Daily Devotion: Fountain of Life by Octavius Winslow

Bible Reading: Psalm 36:5-12 KJV

Key Verse:  "For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light."
Psalm 36:9 KJV

Behold, what a fountain of life is God! All intelligences, from the highest angel in heaven to the lowliest creature on earth, drawing every breath of their existence from Him. "In Him we live, and move, and have our being." But He is more than this to the Church. He is the fountain of love, as well as of life. The spirits of "just men made perfect," and the redeemed on earth, satiate their thirsty souls at the overflowing fullness of the Father's love.

Daily Devotion: Does Job Fear God For Nothing by Charles Spurgeon

Bible Reading: Job 1:1-9 KJV

Key Verse:  "Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?"
- Job 1:9 KJV

This was the wicked question of Satan, concerning that upright man of old—but there are many in the present day concerning whom it might be asked with justice, for they love God after a fashion, because He prospers them; but if things went badly with them—they would give up all their boasted faith in God. If they can clearly see that since the time of their supposed conversion, the world has gone prosperously with them, then they will love God in their poor carnal way; but if they endure adversity, they rebel against the Lord. Their love is the love of the table, not of the host; a love to the cupboard, not to the master of the house.

Daily Devotion: God's Mercy Seat by J.C. Philpot

Bible Reading: Psalm 43 KJV

Key Verse:  "O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles."
- Psalm 43:3 KJV

A spiritually living man cannot, in his right mind, bear the idea of standing still, that is to say, standing still so as to have no spiritual work going on within; and still less can he bear the idea of going backward. He wants to go forward. He is often dissatisfied with his state; he feels how little he knows; he is well aware of the shallowness of his attainments in the divine life, as well as of the ignorance and the blindness that are in him; and therefore, laboring under the feeling of his own shortcomings for the past, his helplessness for the present, and his ignorance for the future, he wants to go forward wholly and solely in the strength of the Lord, to be led, guided, directed, kept, not by the wisdom and power of the creature, but by the supernatural entrance of light and truth into his soul.

Daily Devotion: Jesus And The Woman of Samaria – Continued by Favell Lee Mortimer

Bible Reading: John 4:39-46 KJV

Key Verse:  "And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did."
- John 4:39 KJV

When the Lord said, "Go call your husband and come here," the woman may have thought that he knew nothing about her circumstances; but his next words showed that he was acquainted with her whole history. Why then did he desire her to call her husband? He wished to bring her sins to her remembrance. It is probable that she had been divorced from these husbands, or had left them in a wicked manner. It was painful to her to be reminded of the sins of past years, and to be detected in pursuing even at that time an immoral course. But why did Jesus inflict this pain and this shame? That he might afterwards confer on this unhappy sinful woman everlasting glory and felicity. Let us not turn away from the remembrance of our sins. Everyone must be brought low before he can be lifted up. We naturally shrink from being exposed even to ourselves; this is our folly and our sin.

Daily Devotion: The Importance Of Being Faithful by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 4:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful."
- 1 Corinthians 4:2 KJV

As Christians, we often talk about the importance of having a strong relationship with God. But what does it mean to have a strong relationship with God? Is it just about believing in Him, or is it about being faithful to Him? Faithfulness encompasses loyalty, steadfastness, and reliability in our relationship with God and with others. It is a quality that reflects God’s own character, for He is forever faithful to His promises and His people. In this devotional, we will explore the importance of being faithful to God and how it shapes our relationship with Him, and the danger of not being faithful.

Daily Devotion: Stand Still by J. R. Miller

Key Verse:  "Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the Lord of all the righteous acts of the Lord, which he did to you and to your fathers."
- 1 Samuel 12:7 KJV

It is good to stand still sometimes, and look back over the way by which God has led us. Of one thing we may always be sure—all God's dealings with us are right. Some of them may seem hard. We all have our trials, disappointments, sorrows, sufferings, our cups of bitterness. There is no way in which we can see goodness in all these experiences, except by faith in the unfailing righteousness of God. Yet a firm conviction of this truth brings peace in the darkest hour. God cannot be unloving. He is our Father.

Daily Devotion: Reviving Grace by John MacDuff

Bible Reading: Isaiah 40:24-31 KJV

Key Verse:  "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
- Isaiah 40:31 KJV

"Will You not revive us, O Lord?" My soul! are you conscious of your declining state? Is your walk less with God, your affections less heavenly? Have you less conscious nearness to the mercy-seat, diminished communion with your Savior? Is prayer less a privilege than it has been? Are the pulsations of spiritual life more languid, and fitful, and spasmodic? Is the bread of life less relished? Are the seen, and the temporal, and the tangible, displacing unseen and eternal realities? Are you sinking down into this state of drowsy self-contentment, this conformity of your life with the world, forfeiting all the happiness of true religion and risking and endangering the better life to come? Arise! Call upon your God! "Will you not revive us, O Lord?"

Daily Devotion: Love in God by James Meikle

Bible Reading: Jeremiah 31:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee."
- Jeremiah 31:3 KJV

Love in the saints is a noble grace—but superlatively glorious in God. On it angels look, and admire; and I should look, and adore. Everything in God has the majesty of a God. Hence, his mercy is in the heavens; his truth reaches to the clouds; his justice is like majestic mountains; his judgments are a great deep; his pity is like that of a father; his patience great to a miracle; he is ready to forgive; his goodness is abundant unto all; and his love, in height, breadth, depth, and length—past knowledge.

Daily Devotion: Believer's Baptism by Wil Pounds

Bible Reading: Romans 6:3-10 KJV

Key Verse:  "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."
- Romans 6:4 KJV

The ordinance of the believer’s baptism is a marvelous picture of the Christian’s vital union, and identification with Jesus Christ in His death, burial and resurrection.

There is a “wet” baptism and a “dry” baptism. The “dry” baptism is without water and is the work of God the Holy Spirit placing the believer in Christ the moment he believes on Him as his Savior.
