Key Verse: "For unto us a child is
born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his
shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty
God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
- Isaiah 9:6 KJV
Names in Scripture are never accidental. They reveal character, authority, and purpose. No one in all of history carries more meaningful names than Jesus Christ. Each name unveils a different aspect of who He is and how He meets us in every season of life. The many names of Christ are not poetic titles alone, they are promises.
Jesus, the Christ
The name Jesus means “The Lord saves.”
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
— Matthew 1:21 (KJV)
Christ is not distant from our brokenness. He came to save, not only from judgment, but from the bondage of sin that enslaves the heart. When we call on the name of Jesus, we call on salvation itself.
The Lamb of God
“Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
— John 1:29 (KJV)
Jesus is the perfect sacrifice. As the Lamb, He willingly laid down His life so we could be forgiven. When guilt weighs heavy, remember His name as Lamb, your debt has been paid in full.
The Good Shepherd
“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.”
— John 10:11 (KJV)
As Shepherd, Christ guides, protects, and knows His sheep personally. When you feel lost or uncertain, His name reminds you that you are never abandoned. He leads with love and guards with power.
The Bread of Life
“I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
— John 6:35 (KJV)
Jesus alone satisfies the deepest hunger of the soul. No earthly success or possession can replace what only Christ provides. In Him, our spiritual emptiness is filled.
The Light of the World
“I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
— John 8:12 (KJV)
Darkness cannot overcome Him. When confusion, fear, or sorrow surrounds you, Christ shines truth and hope into every shadow. His name assures us that darkness never has the final word.
The Way, the Truth, and the Life
“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
— John 14:6 (KJV)
Jesus does not merely show the way, He is the way. In a world of shifting truths, His name anchors us to eternal reality and leads us safely to the Father.
King of Kings and Lord of Lords
“And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
— Revelation 19:16 (KJV)
Christ reigns supreme. No power, authority, or circumstance stands above Him. When life feels out of control, remember this name, your Savior is also your sovereign King.
