Daily Devotion: The Acts of the Apostles - Peter Preaches in Solomon’s Porch by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Acts 3:17-24 KJV

Key Verse:  "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord." - Acts 3:19 KJV

The miraculous healing at the temple draws a crowd—and Peter immediately recognizes an opportunity. But instead of drawing attention to himself, he points everything back to Jesus. “Why look ye so earnestly on us?” Peter makes it clear: this miracle was not by human power, but through faith in the name of Jesus Christ.

Then, with boldness, he delivers a message the people may not expect. He reminds them of their role in rejecting Jesus: “Ye denied the Holy One… and killed the Prince of life.”

This is a direct and convicting truth.

Yet Peter does not stop with conviction, he offers hope.

“Repent… and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.”

This is the heart of the gospel:

  • Acknowledging sin
  • Turning back to God
  • Receiving forgiveness and renewal

Peter speaks of “times of refreshing,” a beautiful promise that God brings restoration to those who turn to Him.

What stands out in this moment is Peter’s transformation. The same man who once denied Jesus now boldly proclaims Him in public, without fear. This is the power of the Holy Spirit at work.

And the message remains the same today: no matter what we’ve done, God offers forgiveness, restoration, and new life through Jesus Christ.

Life Application

  • Point others to Jesus, not yourself
  • Be bold in sharing truth with love
  • Respond to conviction with repentance
  • Embrace the refreshing and renewal God offers

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the forgiveness and new life You offer. Help me to be bold in sharing Your truth and to always point others to You. Bring times of refreshing into my life as I walk closely with You. Amen.
