Key Verse: "Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them." - Acts 11:3 KJV
When Peter returned to Jerusalem after visiting Cornelius, news had already spread: Gentiles had received the word of God. While this was a remarkable development, it also stirred concern among some believers. They questioned Peter, saying, “You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them!”
Rather than responding defensively, Peter carefully recounted everything that had happened. He shared about the vision he received in Joppa, the sheet from heaven and the voice declaring that what God has made clean should not be called impure. He explained how the Holy Spirit led him to go with Cornelius’s men and how, as he began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon the Gentiles just as it had upon them at the beginning.
Peter concluded with a powerful realization: “If then God gave the same gift to them as He gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God’s way?”
These words shifted the perspective of those listening. Their concerns gave way to praise. They glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.”
This passage reminds us that God often works in ways that stretch our understanding. Sometimes, His plans challenge our traditions, expectations, or comfort zones. Like the early believers, we may struggle at first to grasp what He is doing. But when we see His hand clearly, the only right response is humility and worship.
Peter’s example teaches us the importance of sharing testimonies of God’s work. When we tell others what God is doing, it can bring clarity, encouragement, and unity. It also reminds us that we are participants in something far greater than ourselves, God’s unfolding plan to reach the world.

Are you open to the ways God may be working outside your expectations? How can you respond with humility and trust when He stretches your understanding?

Lord, help me to trust Your plans, even when they challenge my thinking. Give me a humble heart that seeks to understand Your will and celebrates Your work in others. Teach me not to stand in Your way, but to join You in what You are doing. May my life reflect openness, faith, and praise for Your amazing grace. Amen.
