Key Verse: "And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people." - Acts 6:8 KJV
Stephen, one of the first deacons chosen to serve the early church, was described as “full of faith and of the Holy Spirit.” He did great wonders and signs among the people, boldly proclaiming the truth of Jesus Christ. Yet his faithfulness stirred opposition. False witnesses accused him, and he was brought before the council.
Instead of defending himself with fear, Stephen used the moment to testify. He recounted God’s faithfulness throughout Israel’s history, pointing to Jesus as the Righteous One whom they had rejected. His words cut deeply, and the crowd reacted with fury. But Stephen, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked up and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of the Father.
Even as stones were cast at him, Stephen responded not with anger, but with grace. He prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit,” and then, echoing Christ’s own words on the cross, he said, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” With that, he fell asleep.
Stephen’s life and death remind us that following Jesus is not always easy. There may be opposition, misunderstanding, or even persecution. But his example also shows us what it means to stand firm in faith, to speak truth with courage, and to extend forgiveness even in the face of hatred.
His vision of Jesus standing is powerful, our Savior is not distant or indifferent. He sees, He knows, and He honors those who remain faithful to Him.

Prayer
Lord, give me the courage of Stephen. Help me to stand firm in truth, to trust You in every circumstance, and to respond with grace and forgiveness. Open my eyes to see Your presence, especially in difficult moments. Strengthen my faith so that I may honor You in both life and trial. Amen.
