In Caesarea lived a Roman centurion named Cornelius, a Gentile, yet a devout man who feared God, gave generously, and prayed continually. One day, he received a vision from an angel instructing him to send for Peter, who was staying in Joppa.
At the same time, God was preparing Peter’s heart. While praying on a rooftop, Peter fell into a trance and saw a sheet descending from heaven filled with all kinds of animals, both clean and unclean according to Jewish law. A voice said, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” Confused, Peter resisted, saying he had never eaten anything impure. But the voice replied, “What God has made clean, do not call common.” This vision happened three times, emphasizing its importance.
As Peter pondered its meaning, the men sent by Cornelius arrived. The Spirit told Peter to go with them without hesitation. When Peter entered Cornelius’s home—a significant step for a Jewish man, he found a gathering of people eager to hear from God.
Peter began to speak, and a profound realization took hold of him: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears Him and does what is right is acceptable to Him.” He then shared the good news of Jesus, His life, death, and resurrection.
As Peter spoke, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening, Gentiles included. The Jewish believers who came with Peter were astonished. The same gift they had received was now poured out on those they once considered outsiders. There was no distinction. God’s salvation was for all.
Peter immediately recognized what God was doing and commanded that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. The dividing lines had been broken. The gospel was not confined to one people group, it was for the entire world.
This moment is a turning point in the early church. It challenges us to examine our own hearts. Do we place limits where God has removed them? Do we see others through human categories, or through the lens of God’s grace?
God invites all people into His family. His love knows no boundaries of race, status, or background. And like Peter, we are called to go where He sends us, to share the message of Jesus with open hearts and open hands.

Are there people in your life you find difficult to accept or reach? How can you begin to see them as God does?
Prayer
Lord, thank You that Your love is for all people. Remove any prejudice or limitation in my heart that does not reflect Your truth. Help me to see others through Your eyes and to share Your gospel without hesitation. Make me a willing vessel to reach those who are different from me, knowing that Your grace is for everyone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
