Key Verse: "Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands." - Acts 14:3 KJV
Paul and Barnabas arrive in Iconium and immediately begin doing what God called them to do: they preach the gospel. And God blesses their message. A great number of both Jews and Gentiles believe. But once again, opposition appears. Some reject the message and begin stirring up hostility against the believers. The city becomes divided, and eventually a plot develops to stone Paul and Barnabas.
Rather than recklessly remaining in danger, they leave Iconium and continue preaching in other places.
This is an important distinction: courage is not the same as recklessness.
Paul and Barnabas were bold, but they were also willing to recognize when it was time to move on. Their mission was not to prove how brave they were, it was to proclaim the gospel.
And notice what they did when they reached the next region:
“And there they preached the gospel.”
They didn't stop.
They didn't allow opposition in Iconium to make them question their calling. They simply continued the work God had given them.
There will be times when we encounter resistance. Sometimes people will disagree with us. Sometimes circumstances will become difficult. And sometimes God may lead us to move in a different direction.
But opposition should not automatically cause us to abandon our calling.
Paul and Barnabas demonstrate a beautiful combination of boldness, wisdom, perseverance, and dependence upon God.
Their circumstances changed, but their mission did not.

- Remain bold when sharing your faith
- Use wisdom when facing opposition
- Don't allow rejection to stop you from serving God
- Be willing to follow God's direction when circumstances change
- Keep the mission ahead of your circumstances
Prayer
Lord, give me courage to stand for You when I face opposition. Give me wisdom to know when to speak, when to stay, and when to move forward. Help me never to let difficult circumstances keep me from faithfully serving You. May I remain steadfast in the calling You have given me. Amen.
