Daily Devotion: Are You Bringing Forth Much Fruit by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: John 15:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing."
- John 15:5 KJV

Our Key Verse above is a powerful message that teaches us about the importance of remaining connected to Jesus Christ, the true vine, in order to bear much fruit. John 15:4 states, "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me." This lets us know that we can not bear fruit without Jesus Christ abiding in us.

This spiritual fruit is a reflection of the transformative work of the Holy Spirit within us, as described in Galatians 5:22-23, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." These virtues are not only essential for our spiritual growth but also for our overall well-being and success in life. Are these fruits in your life?

As we read in Proverbs 11:30, "The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise." In this verse the fruit that we bear is other souls. Here God explicitly lets us know that we would be wise to lead others to Jesus and see them saved.

What happens if you do not abide in Christ? John 15:2a tell us, "Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away." Once removed John 15:6 lets us know what happens to the branch, "If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned." God expects us to be wise and to bear fruit.

In conclusion, John 15:5, Galatians 5:22, and Proverbs 11:30 all remind us of the importance of staying connected to Jesus Christ and allowing the Holy Spirit to work within us. The fruit that we bear as a result of our faith in Jesus Christ is not only beneficial to us but also to those around us. By living a Christ-centered life and demonstrating the fruit of the Spirit, we can positively impact the lives of others and lead them to the truth of the Gospel. Pray that you always remain connected to the true vine and bring forth much fruit for the glory of God.
