Daily Devotion: Mansions Of Heavenly Bliss by J.C. Philpot

Bible Reading: Malachi 4:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall."
- Malachi 4:2 KJV

O that we could lift our eyes to those blest abodes, those mansions of heavenly bliss, where no sorrow intrudes, where sin is unknown, where tears are wiped from off all faces, where there is no languishing body, no wasting sickness, no pining soul, no doubt, fear, darkness or distress; but one unmingled scene of happiness and pleasure, and the whole soul and body are engaged in singing the praises of God and the Lamb! And what crowns the whole, there is the eternal enjoyment of those pleasures which are at the right hand of God for evermore.

Daily Devotion: Christ Chooses His Twelve Apostles by Favell Lee Mortimer

Bible Reading: Luke 6:12-18 KJV

Key Verse:  "And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;"
- Luke 6:13 KJV

We must remember, that though Jesus was God, yet that he was clothed in a body like our own, and was subject to all our feelings of fatigue. What ardor of love must have filled his bosom to have driven sleep from his eyelids, and to have sustained him in prayer for a whole night! How long do we pass in prayer? Half an hour? perhaps not five minutes morning and evening; perhaps the greater part even of that time our thoughts are wandering to the ends of the earth. Or do we never pray in spirit, with hearty desires after God? Do we feel our prayers a burdensome task; and do we never pour out our souls, as a child pours out his feelings into his father's bosom? If this be the case, how dreadful is our condition!

Daily Devotion: May The Lord Direct Your Hearts by J. R. Miller

Key Verse:  "And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ."
- 2 Thessalonians 3:5 KJV

We need the patience of Christ to keep us from over-helping others. No peril is greater than this too eager love, when brought close to those who are in need. We would help too much—or too soon. We would lift away burdens—that God would have the person carry longer for his own good. We would make the way easy—that would better be left hard. We would hasten the learning of the lesson—that could far better be learned slowly. We would force the bursting of the flower—before the time God has appointed, thus spoiling his perfect work.

Daily Devotion: Everlasting Espousals by John MacDuff

Bible Reading: Hosea 2:16-23 KJV

Key Verse:  "And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies."
- Hosea 2:19 KJV

How wondrous and varied are the figures which Jesus employs to express the tenderness of His covenant love! My soul! your Savior-God has married you! Would you know the TIME of your betrothal? Go back into the depths of a by-past eternity, before the world was; then and there, your espousals were contracted: "I have loved you with an everlasting love!"

Daily Devotion: Signs Of The End Times by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Matthew 24:23-33 KJV

Key Verse:  "So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors."
- Matthew 24:33 KJV

The Bible contains numerous prophecies and warnings regarding the end times, the period leading up to the return of Jesus Christ. As we explore these passages, we find that God has given us signs to watch for, helping us to recognize the approaching culmination of the age. These signs are not meant to cause fear but to encourage believers to remain faithful and watchful.

Daily Devotion: Going To A Fair by James Meikle

Key Verse:  "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God."
- 1 Corinthians 10:31 KJV

The heavenly mind has this advantage, that it can spiritualize every business, and moralize all occurrences of life. As, then, I am this day going to a fair, let me call to mind the comparisons, or the similitude between this market and the market of grace.

Daily Devotion: Christ Our Redeemer by Wil Pounds

Bible Reading: John 1:7-14 KJV

Key Verse:  "The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe."
- John 1:7 KJV

We have been redeemed through the precious blood of Jesus Christ. He paid an infinite price for our salvation. The price of redemption is the death of Jesus Christ. That is the inescapable fact in the Old and New Testament.

Daily Devotion: I Have Loved You With An Everlasting Love by Octavius Winslow

Bible Reading: Jeremiah 3:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee."
- Jeremiah 31:3 KJV

The law of love is the law of God's moral government of His people. By this, and by this alone, He rules them. All that is disciplinary in His conduct is resolvable into love. It is by kindness, "loving-kindness," yes, "marvelous loving-kindness," that He wins back their truant hearts, and binds them closer to Himself. "I am the Lord, who exercise loving-kindness."

Daily Devotion: Run by Charles Spurgeon

Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 18:23-30 KJV

Key Verse:  "But howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and overran Cushi."
- 2 Samuel 18:23 KJV

Running is not everything—there is much in the road which we select. A swift foot running up hills—will not keep pace with a slower traveler upon level ground. How is it with my spiritual journey? Am I laboring up the hill of my own works—and down into the ravines of my own humiliations and resolutions, or do I run by the plain way of "Believe and live"?

Daily Devotion: Pure Fountain Of Immortal Joy by J.C. Philpot

Bible Reading: Ephesians 1:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:"
- Ephesians 1:3 KJV

O, could our faith but embrace a little, were it only a little, and O, could we daily come and drink but a few drops of this pure fountain of immortal joy, in the sweet realization of being blessed, already blessed, fully blessed, unalterably, irreversibly blessed with all spiritual blessings in Christ, what strength and consolation would it impart to our often cast down soul! Look at the words; examine them again and again; think over in your mind, one by one, the spiritual blessings that you most covet.

Daily Devotion: Isaiah's Description Of The Gentle And Compassionate Savior by Favell Lee Mortimer

Bible Reading: Matthew 12:14-21 KJV

Key Verse:  "Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles."
- Matthew 12:14-21 KJV

Though Jesus had silenced his enemies in the synagogue, he had not overcome the enmity of their hearts. Though they could not answer him, they could hate him. So great was their hatred, that when they left the synagogue, "they held a council against him how they might kill him." Without the grace of God, public worship cannot benefit the soul. From the church where the Savior has been present to bless many of the congregation, we may retire only "to do evil with both hands, earnestly."

Daily Devotion: Jesus In The Book Of Exodus by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Exodus 3:13-20 KJV

Key Verse:  "And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you."
- Exodus 3:14 KJV

The pages of the Old Testament are not merely a collection of historical accounts and prophetic writings, but they also hold a vivid portrayal of Jesus Christ, the central figure of our faith. As we delve into the ancient scriptures, we discover that the foreshadows, symbols, and types all point to the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. As John 5:39 points out, Jesus Himself said that the Old Testament was about Him. In this devotional, we will share reference to Jesus in the book of Exodus.

Daily Devotion: You Are Light In The Lord by J. R. Miller

Bible Reading: Ephesians 5:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:"
- Ephesians 5:8 KJV

The tendency to morbidness which shows itself in some people, is most unhealthy. In some it is habitual; a disposition to gloom has been permitted to have its way so long—that now the feelings run, even unimpeded, in melancholy grooves. In others it is incidental, caused by loss or trial, the life requiring some time to react after its shock of grief, and rebound to its wonted cheerfulness. The latter experience is not so unwholesome, because it is transient; but the former, wherever it exists, should be treated as a mental disease, and subjected to the wisest processes of cure. It is destructive of the life's beauty. It mars one's usefulness. It grieves God, for it is practical unbelief.

Daily Devotion: A Glorious Reunion by John MacDuff

Bible Reading: John 14:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
- John 14:3 KJV

If the meeting of a long absent friend or brother on earth is a joyous event — then what, my soul, must be the joy of your union with this Brother of brothers, this Friend of friends! "I will come again!" Oh! what an errand of love, what a promised honor and dignity is this — His saints to share, not His Heaven only — but His immediate presence! "Where I am — there you shall be also!"

Daily Devotion: Grace In The Blush, Sin Not Ashamed by James Meikle

Bible Reading: Psalm 107:36-43 KJV

Key Verse:  "The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth."
- Psalm 107:42 KJV

It is one of the most surprising things that I have ever observed, that sanctity should be ashamed—but iniquity not ashamed to display itself. Hence it is one of the greatest blessings promised to the lower world, that "iniquity, as ashamed, shall stop her mouth;" which supposes, that in bad times she has an impudent loquacity, both a whore's forehead in refusing to be ashamed, and the tongue of a strumpet in scorning to be silenced. Hence the company of dissolute people over their bottle, are not shy to open to another the mystery of iniquity in their most abandoned actions, and to boast in their shame.

Daily Devotion: Christ our Reconciliation by Wil Pounds

Bible Reading: Genesis 3:4-11 KJV

Key Verse:  "And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden."
- Genesis 3:8 KJV

Adam enjoyed perfect fellowship and communion with God before he disobeyed Him in the Garden. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God that fellowship was broken, and Adam tried to hide himself from God (Genesis 3:8-11). That broken relationship with God needed to be restored or man would be eternally separated from God’s holy presence.

Daily Devotion: We Shall See Jesus As He Is by Octavius Winslow

Bible Reading: 1 John 3:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is."
- 1 John 3:2 KJV

Who can fully tell of all the Redeemer's glory in heaven? Or, were it fully revealed, what power to grasp, what faculties to comprehend, what eye to behold, and what tongue to describe so lofty a theme and so sublime a spectacle as this? But we shall behold it! We, too, shall be glorified. The mind shall be adjusted to the mightiness of the theme, and the eye shall be strengthened for the dazzling magnificence of the spectacle.

Daily Devotion: The Lord Our Righteousness by Charles Spurgeon

Bible Reading: Jeremiah 23:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The Lord Our Righteousness."
Jeremiah 23:6 KJV

It will always give a Christian the greatest calm, quiet, ease, and peace—to think of the perfect righteousness of Christ. How often are the saints of God downcast and sad! I do not think they ought to be. I do not think they would be—if they could always see their perfection in Christ. There are some who are always talking about corruption, and the depravity of the heart, and the innate evil of the soul. This is quite true—but why not go a little further, and remember that we are "perfect in Christ Jesus!" It is no wonder that those who are dwelling upon their own corruption should wear such downcast looks; but surely if we call to mind that "Christ is made unto us, righteousness," we shall be of good cheer!

Daily Devotion: True Worship Requires Sacrifice by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 24:18-25 KJV

Key Verse:  "And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver."
- 2 Samuel 24:24 KJV

Worship is a central aspect of the Christian life, but what does it truly mean to worship God? The Bible paints a picture of worship that goes beyond mere words or actions and requires a sacrifice of our time, resources, and, ultimately, ourselves. In our Key Verse above, King David put it best when he said that he would not offer to God something that cost him nothing.

Daily Devotion: Jesus Comforts Our Hearts by J.C. Philpot

Key Verse:  "Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work."
- 2 Thessalonians 2:17 KJV

When the Lord is pleased to apply a promise, drop in a word of encouragement, speak home an invitation with power, he administers consolation thereby. It comforts the drooping heart; it speaks peace to a guilty conscience. And this consolation is "everlasting consolation;" for it flows from nothing less than such a source, that is, the eternal love of God; and flows onward to an everlasting ocean of infinite delight. Any intimation of a saving interest in the everlasting love of God is a blessing beyond all price; for the Lord never gives any such intimation but as a certain pledge and foretaste of immortal bliss. He can neither disappoint nor deceive. Once blest, blest forever.

Daily Devotion: Christ Heals A Man With A Withered Hand by Favell Lee Mortimer

Bible Reading: Matthew 12:9-16 KJV

Key Verse:  "Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other."
- Matthew 12:13 KJV

It was upon the way to the synagogue that the disciples had plucked the ears of corn; for our Savior did honor to the ordinances of public worship by attending them himself. He taught at the synagogue, he sat among the readers, and expounded. His enemies were present; for they observed the forms of religion, though they knew not its power.

Daily Devotion: Stand Strong by J. R. Miller

Key Verse:  "Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong."
1 Corinthians 16:13 KJV

Gentleness and good temper are not all. One may have these qualities, and yet be lacking in the completeness of well-rounded Christian character. There must be strength as well as beauty. Love is the fulfilling of the law; all the commandments being summed up in one, "You shall love." But love is a large word. It is like one of those composite pictures, into which many pictures are blended. All the elements of duty to God and to our fellows—are wrapped up in the divine conception of loving.

Daily Devotion: Heavenly Illuminatiion by John MacDuff

Bible Reading: John 13:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter."
- John 13:7 KJV

As the natural sun sometimes sinks in clouds — so, occasionally, the Christian who has a bright rising, and a brighter meridian, sets in gloom. It is not always "light" at his evening time; but this we know, that when the day of immortality breaks, the last vestige of earth's shadows will forever flee away! To the closing hour of time, Divine Providence may be to him a baffling enigma; but before the first hour has struck on Heaven's clock — all will be cleared up! My soul! "in God's light you shall see light." The Book of His decrees is a sealed book now, "A great deep" is all the explanation you can often give to His mysterious ways. The why and the wherefore — He seems to keep from us — to test our faith, to discipline us in trustful submission, and lead us to say, "May Your will be done!"

Daily Devotion: The Traveler by James Meikle

Bible Reading: Matthew 25:14-21 KJV

Key Verse:  "For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods."
- Matthew 25:14 KJV

'Gentlemen of taste' frequently travel abroad: and it is so much in vogue to wander over some part of the world once in life, that he is hardly accounted an accomplished gentleman that has not spent a part of his time in climates and countries remote from that which gave him birth: whence he returns rich in observations, and mightily improved, having made an accurate survey among whatever people he visited—whether as to the genius, stature, complexion, religion, laws, government, rites, and dress of the natives: or the merchandise, produce, rivers, soil, air, language, etc. of the country. And does this render men more agreeable company, to have glanced from head to foot, as it were, over only one page of the great volume of creation? For what is our earth in comparison of God's handy works?

Daily Devotion: Christ our Propitiation by Wil Pounds

Bible Reading: 1 John 2:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world."
1 John 2:2 KJV

Please don’t let that title scare you off. That is a beautiful and profound word. Christ’s death turns away the wrath of God. The apostle Paul said Christ is our propitiation. He is a propitiatory sacrifice. It refers to what Christ did on our behalf before God.

Daily Devotion: God Expects Us To Be Diligent And Not Lazy by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 9:9-16 KJV

Key Verse:  "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; "
- Ecclesiastes 9:10a KJV

As believers, we are called to live a life of diligence and productivity, honoring God with our time, talents, and resources. However, the enemy of laziness often tempts us to shirk our responsibilities and indulge in idleness. In this devotional, we will explore the consequences of laziness and the biblical expectations for a life of purpose and fruitfulness.

Daily Devotion: He Was Delivered For Our Offences by Octavius Winslow

Bible Reading: Romans 4:18-25 KJV

Key Verse:  "Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification."
- Romans 4:25 KJV

Obeying, suffering, and rising as the Representative, the Surety, the Head of His Church, may we not say, that what He did was not so much His own act, as that of the Church in Him? He obeyed not for Himself, nor for Himself did He die and rise again, but for His "body, the Church." His resurrection, therefore, was as much His Church's entire release, discharge, and justification, as it was His own. Then was the glorious sentence of acquittal passed, then transpired the great act of justification.

Daily Devotion: We Have Obtained An Inheritance by Charles Spurgeon

Bible Reading: Ephesians 1:10-17 KJV

Key Verse:  "In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:"
- Ephesians 1:11 KJV

When Jesus gave Himself for us—He gave us all the rights and privileges which went with Himself. As eternal God, He has essential rights to which no creature may venture to pretend—yet as Jesus, the Mediator, the federal Head of the covenant of grace—He has no inheritance apart from us. All the glorious consequences of His obedience unto death—are the joint riches of all who are in Him, and on whose behalf He accomplished the divine will.

Daily Devotion: He Is The Head Over All Things by J.C. Philpot

Bible Reading: Ephesians 1:16-23 KJV

Key Verse:  "And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,"
Ephesians 1:22 KJV

How vast, how numerous, how complicated are the various events and circumstances which attend the Church of God here below, as she travels onward to her heavenly home! But if all things as well as all persons are put under Jesus' feet, there cannot be a single circumstance over which he has not supreme control. Everything in providence and everything in grace are alike subject to his disposal. There is not a trial or temptation, an affliction of body or soul, a loss, a cross, a painful bereavement, a vexation, grief or disappointment, a case, state or condition, which is not put under Jesus' feet.

Daily Devotion: Christ Defends His Disciples by Favell Lee Mortimer1

Bible Reading: Matthew 12:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day."
- Matthew 12:2 KJV

The Pharisees were so much inflamed against Christ, that now that he was in Jerusalem they sought eagerly to find some accusation against him, or his disciples. They particularly watched them on the Sabbath day; and now they thought they had caught them in a fault, because they observed them plucking ears of corn, and rubbing them in their hands, (as Luke informs us,) and eating, as they passed through some fields on their way to the synagogue.

Daily Devotion: Are You Ashamed To Be a Christian by J. R. Miller

Bible Reading: Acts 24:10-17 KJV

Key Verse:  "But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:"
Acts 24:14 KJV

It is easy enough when we are in meetings of Christians—to be known as one of them. But Christ wants us to confess him just as distinctly when we are among his enemies. If anyone sneers at us as Christians, we should not blush and hang our head, and stammer out an apology, or, far worse, a denial. We should be ready, without bravado, modestly and humbly—yet boldly, to admit that we are Christians, and to do it in such a way as to show that we rejoice in our relation to Christ, and in confessing it.

Daily Devotion: Christ Explains The Spiritual Nature Of The Law by Favell Lee Mortimer
