Daily Devotion: Verses For Comfort During Trials by J.E. Smith


Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 1:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;"
- 2 Corinthians 1:3 KJV

In the midst of life’s trials and tribulations, it is easy to feel overwhelmed, uncertain and even that God has abandoned you. However, the Bible provides us with countless verses that reminds us of God’s unwavering presence and His promise to guide us through every challenge. Let’s look at some verses that we can find comfort and strength in during the trials that we face.

1. Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” 

  • This verse assures us that even in our darkest moments, God is working everything for our good.
  • We must trust that His purpose is perfect and that He is orchestrating all things for our benefit.

2. Hebrews 13:5-6, “...for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

  • Hebrews reminds us that God will never leave us nor forsake us.
  • We can have confidence in His presence and rely on Him to protect us from all harm.

You can not have a list of comforting verses without mentioning the 23rd Psalm.

3. Psalm 23:4, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” 

  • Psalm 23 provides a powerful reminder that even in the darkest valleys, God is with us.
  • His rod and staff are a source of comfort and protection, assuring us that we need not fear.

4. John 16:33, Jesus tells us, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

  • Jesus assures us that we will face tribulations in this world.
  • We can find peace in Him during these tribulations.
  • He has overcome the world, and we can trust in His victory.

While the world says, “Been there, done that.” Only Jesus can say, “Been there, CONQUERED that!
