Daily Devotion: Satan Is Given Too Much and Too Little Credit by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: 1 Peter 5:1-8 KJV

Key Verse:  "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:"
- 1 Peter 5:8 KJV

How most people view Satan, also known as the Devil,  is a bit of a paradox. They attribute more power to him than he actually has, while seeing him as a bit of prankster. In fact, he is neither, but has a plan that he is working to bring on Armageddon using the people on earth.

Satan is often portrayed as an all-powerful, all-knowing, and omnipresent force. However, this is a misconception that is not supported by the Bible. As Christians, we must understand that Satan's power and abilities are limited, and he is not equal to God.

In 1 John 4:4, we read, "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." This verse clearly states that the power of God within us is greater than the power of Satan, who is referred to as "he that is in the world."

Furthermore, Satan's knowledge is limited, as demonstrated in Matthew 24:36, which says, "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." This verse highlights that even the angels, including Satan, do not possess all knowledge, as only God knows the exact time of Jesus' return.

Satan is not omnipresent, as he cannot be in multiple places at once. In Job 1:7, we read, "And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it." This verse indicates that Satan must travel from one place to another, which is a clear indication that he is not omnipresent like God.

Since Satan can not be everywhere, all the things that we usually blame on him, he likely was not the direct cause. If we hit something on the way to church and blow out a tire, sometimes we will say something like 'Satan hindered me.' However, we individually are not important enough for Satan to focus his limited time on. Instead Satan is focused on executing his plan on the world.

Satan, the great deceiver, has a plan that is building towards the end times as described in the Book of Revelation. His ultimate goal is to thwart God's plan for redemption and establish his own dominion over the earth. However, we can take comfort in knowing that God is in control and has already defeated Satan through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

In Revelation 12:9, we read, "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." This verse reveals that Satan after being cast out of heaven and seeks to deceive the entire world, while influencing people to follow his evil ways.

As we continue reading in Revelation, we see that Satan's plan involves the rise of the Antichrist, a false prophet, and a one-world government. However, we must remember that God is aware of these plans and has already set in motion a series of events that will ultimately lead to the defeat of Satan and the establishment of Christ's eternal kingdom.

In Revelation 20:10, we read, "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever." This verse assures us that Satan's plan will not ultimately succeed, as he will be cast into the lake of fire, along with the Antichrist and the false prophet.

In conclusion, it is crucial for Christians to remember that Satan is not all-powerful, all-knowing, or omnipresent. While Satan has a plan that is building towards the end times as described in Revelation, we must remember that Satan is a limited being and God is in control and has already defeated him through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. As believers, we must rely on the power of God within us to overcome Satan's influence and attacks, so that we may live a life that brings glory to our Heavenly Father.
