Bible Reading: 1 John 3:13-20 KJV
- 1 John 3:14 KJV
So much of our life is spent with those that we work with, along with family and friends. Many of these people are not saved, but we enjoy spending time with them because they help break up the drudgery of the work day, or we have share interests with them such as sewing, cooking, sports, hunting, fishing, TV programs, etc.
Love is an action. Many know that children spell love as T-I-M-E. Who you love is who you want to spend time with and do things for. In Luke 3:11b Jesus lets us know that we are to share with those less fortunate than us saying, "...He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise." Jesus even goes as far to say in Matthew 25:40b "...Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
In John 13:34-35 Jesus summed it up by saying "[34] A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. [35] By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."
Do you have a great love for your brothers and sisters in Christ? Do you like spending time with them discussing the things of God, or would you rather be with your secular friends and family? If you do not love the brethren, then there was no salvation - you are not part of the saved few.
