Key Verse: "And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed."
- Genesis 12:3 KJV
When we speak of blessings, we often think of things God gives. But Scripture teaches that our greatest blessing is not a thing—it is a Person. That Person is Jesus Christ, the One in whom “For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us” (2 Corinthians 1:20, KJV).
1. Jesus Is the Blessing Promised to the Nations
As our Key Verse above notes, long before Jesus was born in Bethlehem, God spoke to Abraham and said, “…in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed” (Genesis 12:3b, KJV).
Paul explains that this promise ultimately pointed to Christ: “That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ...” (Galatians 3:14a, KJV).
Jesus is not merely a blessing from God; He is the Blessing, the fulfillment of every hope, the answer to every longing.
2. Jesus Blesses Us Through His Presence
In the Old Testament, the blessing of God meant His face shining upon His people: “The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:” (Numbers 6:24–25, KJV).
In Jesus, that blessing becomes personal and visible. “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John 1:14, KJV).
He is God’s shining face, walking among us. He is Emmanuel—“...God with us” (Matthew 1:23b, KJV).
The greatest blessing is not what God gives, but that He gives Himself.
3. Jesus Blesses Us Through Redemption
Before Christ, we were under the curse of sin. But Scripture declares: “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us...” (Galatians 3:13a, KJV).
He took the curse so that we could receive the blessing. He took our sin so we could receive His righteousness: “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2 Corinthians 5:21, KJV).
Every spiritual blessing flows from the cross.
4. Jesus Blesses Us Daily
Jesus does not simply bless us once; He blesses us continually. David wrote: “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah” (Psalm 68:19, KJV).
Paul echoes this truth: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3, KJV).
Every forgiveness, every mercy, every answered prayer, every moment of strength, all flow from Jesus, the Blessing.
5. Jesus Will Be Our Blessing Forever
The greatest blessing is yet to come: “And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads” (Revelation 22:4, KJV).
Not streets of gold, not gates of pearl, not the absence of pain, but the presence of Jesus. He Himself is the eternal reward of the redeemed.
Conclusion
Jesus is the ultimate Blessing, who brings spiritual and eternal enrichment to all who believe in Him. Through His life, sacrifice, and resurrection, believers are made recipients of all the blessings of God, both for this life and the life to come.
The Lord Jesus, through His life, death, and resurrection, has made it possible for believers to be reconciled to God, inherit eternal life, and walk in the fullness of His peace and provision.
