As Jesus leaves Jericho, surrounded by a large crowd, one voice rises above the noise, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus. Though he cannot see Jesus, he recognizes who He is and cries out, “Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.” The crowd tries to silence him, but Bartimaeus refuses to be quiet. In fact, he cries out even louder. His persistence reveals a deep, desperate faith, he believes Jesus is his only hope.
Then something remarkable happens: Jesus stops.
In the midst of a busy crowd and an important journey, Jesus takes time for one overlooked man. He calls Bartimaeus forward and asks, “What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?” Though the need seems obvious, Jesus invites him to express his faith.
Bartimaeus responds simply and boldly: “Lord, that I might receive my sight.”
Jesus honors his faith, restores his sight instantly, and Bartimaeus responds by following Him.
This story is a beautiful picture of faith that persists despite opposition, calls out to Jesus with confidence, and responds with wholehearted devotion.

- Cry out to Jesus in your need — don’t hold back
- Don’t let others discourage your faith
- Trust that Jesus sees and hears you
- Follow Jesus wholeheartedly after He works in your life
Prayer
Lord, give me the kind of faith that cries out to You without hesitation. Help me to trust You even when others doubt or discourage me. Open my eyes to see You more clearly, and lead me to follow You faithfully. Amen.
