Daily Devotion: The Life of Jesus - The Great Commission by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Matthew 28:16-20 KJV

Key Verse:  "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:"
- Matthew 28:19 KJV

After His resurrection, Jesus gathers His disciples one final time on a mountain in Galilee. These are the same men who had once doubted, feared, and even fled—but now they stand before their risen Savior. Jesus begins with a powerful declaration:
“All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” This is the foundation of the mission. The authority behind the command is absolute.

Then comes the commission: “Go ye therefore…”

This is not a suggestion, it is a calling for every believer. The disciples are sent to teach all nations, to share the gospel, to make disciples, and to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Their mission is clear:

  • Share the message of salvation
  • Call people to repentance
  • Teach others to follow Jesus

But Jesus does not send them alone.

He gives a promise that still stands today: “I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.”

What an incredible assurance.

No matter where we go, no matter how challenging the mission may be, Jesus is present with us. And through the power of the Holy Spirit, we are equipped to carry out His work.

The Great Commission is not just for the early disciples, it is for all who follow Christ.

Life Application

  • Share the gospel with others
  • Live as a witness for Christ in your daily life
  • Trust in Jesus’ authority and presence
  • Be intentional about making disciples

Prayer

Lord, thank You for calling me to be part of Your mission. Give me boldness to share the gospel and wisdom to lead others to You. Help me to remember that I am never alone, for You are always with me. Amen.

Are you Saved?
