Key Verse: "And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me." - Luke 22:19 KJV
On the night before the cross, Jesus gathers with His disciples for a final meal. What should have been a simple Passover becomes one of the most profound moments in Scripture. Jesus knows what lies ahead, betrayal, suffering, and death, yet His focus is on love, service, and sacrifice.
He breaks bread and shares the cup, establishing what we now call the Lord’s Supper. The bread represents His body, soon to be broken. The cup represents His blood, soon to be shed. In this act, Jesus points forward to the cross and invites His followers to remember.
But the evening doesn’t stop there.
In a stunning display of humility, Jesus washes His disciples’ feet a task reserved for servants. Even Judas, who would betray Him, is not excluded from this act of love.
Jesus then gives a new commandment: “Love one another; as I have loved you.”
This is not a shallow or conditional love. It is sacrificial, humble, and unconditional, the very love Jesus is about to demonstrate on the cross.
The Last Supper reminds us that following Christ is not just about believing, it is about remembering, serving, and loving like Him.
