The waiting is over. On the Day of Pentecost, everything changes. Suddenly, the sound of a rushing mighty wind fills the house. Tongues of fire appear, resting on each of the disciples. And just as Jesus promised, they are filled with the Holy Spirit. This is not a quiet moment, instead it is powerful, visible, and undeniable.
The disciples begin to speak in different languages, and people from many nations hear the message of God in their own tongue. What once seemed impossible is now happening through the power of the Spirit.
This is the birth of the Church.
Peter, who once denied Jesus, now stands boldly before the crowd. No longer afraid, he preaches with clarity and conviction. He declares who Jesus is and calls people to respond: “Repent… and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
And the response is overwhelming, about three thousand souls are saved in one day.
What made the difference? The Holy Spirit.
The same disciples who once hid in fear are now fearless witnesses. Their strength didn’t come from themselves, it came from God’s power within them.
Pentecost reminds us that the Christian life is not meant to be lived in our own strength. The Holy Spirit empowers us to speak, to serve, to love, and to stand boldly for Christ.
