Daily Devotion: Rejoicing In The Lord by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: Psalm 118:21-29 KJV

Key Verse:  "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." - Psalm 118:24 KJV

Every morning we awaken to a gift, a day God Himself has made. It may unfold with joy or challenge, sunlight or storm, but no matter what it holds, one thing remains true: the day belongs to the Lord. Because of that truth, we can choose to rejoice.

Rejoicing is not always rooted in circumstance; it is grounded in confidence. The Apostle Paul wrote from a prison cell, “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice” (Philippians 4:4). Paul’s joy did not depend on freedom or comfort but on the unchanging faithfulness of God. He understood that when we anchor our hearts in God’s character, His mercy, His promises, His salvation, our joy endures even in difficulty.

The psalmist also declared, “My heart shall rejoice in thy salvation” (Psalm 13:5b). Our greatest reason for joy is not what we have or what goes right, but what Christ has done. Salvation is the eternal reminder that God’s love has conquered sin and death, and that assurance alone gives us reason to be glad every day.

When we choose to see each day as a divine opportunity rather than a random occurrence, praise fills our hearts. Gratitude displaces worry, and joy strengthens our spirit. Nehemiah reminded God’s people, “The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10b). That strength sustains us when trials come, turning our rejoicing into a testimony of faith.

So today, pause and give thanks. Breathe in the truth that this day, whatever it looks like, was crafted by the Lord’s own hand. Lift your heart in worship, for "He is good; His mercy endureth forever" (Psalm 118:1b).

Let every sunrise be a reminder: this day was made for rejoicing, not because it is perfect, but because He is.

Are you Saved?
