Daily Devotion: Jesus' Sinless Life by J.E. Smith

Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:14-21 KJV

Key Verse:  "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."
2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV

The Bible teaches that Jesus lived a life free from sin, which is a testament to His divine nature. This sinless life is essential for our salvation, as it allowed Him to become the perfect (unblemished) sacrifice for our sins. Jesus though tempted in every way as we are, never committed a sin. The apostle Peter stated it clearly in 1 Peter 2:22 KJV, Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth.Indeed, Jesus Christ is God. In looking at His sinless life, consider these three points:

1. Jesus' Sinless Conception (Matthew 1:18-25 KJV)

Sin is with us from the time we are conceived. In Psalm 51:5 KJV, David tells us that "...in sin did my mother conceive me." For Jesus, His sinless nature began with His conception. In Matthew 1:18-25, we read about the miraculous conception of Jesus by the Holy Spirit. This event was foretold by the prophet Isaiah, who said, "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us" (Matthew 1:23 KJV ). The sinless nature of Jesus' conception is a testament to His divine origin, setting Him apart from all other people.

2. Jesus' Sinless Life on Earth (1 Peter 2:22, 1 John 3:5 KJV)

Jesus was not only born sinless, but throughout His life on earth He remained sinless. As noted above, the apostle Peter writes in 1 Peter 2:22 KJV, "Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth." The apostle John echoes this truth in 1 John 3:5, stating, "And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin." Jesus' sinless life is a testament to His divine nature and His ability to live a life free from sin.

3. Jesus' Sinless Sacrifice (Hebrews 4:15, 7:26-28 KJV)

Jesus' sinless life allowed Him to become the perfect (unblemished) sacrifice for our sins. In Hebrews 4:15 KJV we read, "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin." Jesus was tempted in every way we are, but He did not succumb to sin. This sinless sacrifice made it possible for us to be forgiven and to be reconciled to God.

In conclusion, the sinless life of Jesus Christ is a testament to His divine nature and His unique qualification to be our Savior. His sinless life allowed Him to become the perfect (unblemished) sacrifice for our sins, making it possible for us to be forgiven and reconciled to God. The life of Jesus should inspire us to pursue holiness and righteousness, by following His example and striving to be more like Him.
