Daily Devotion: The Joy of Abiding — Fullness of Joy in Christ

Bible Reading: John 15:9-16 KJV

Key Verse:  "These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full." - John 15:11 KJV

Joy That Comes from Christ

Jesus does not just offer temporary happiness, He offers His joy.

“…that my joy might remain in you…” (John 15:11, KJV)

This is not joy based on circumstances. It is joy that comes from abiding in Him.

“…in thy presence is fulness of joy…” (Psalm 16:11, KJV)

Joy is found in His presence, and abiding keeps us there.

Joy Is Different from Happiness

Happiness depends on what happens.
Joy depends on who Christ is.

“Although the fig tree shall not blossom… Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” (Habakkuk 3:17–18, KJV)

Even when circumstances are difficult, joy remains possible through Christ.

Joy Remains When We Abide

Jesus said His joy would remain in us, not come and go.

When we disconnect from Him, we often lose that sense of joy. But when we return to abiding, joy is restored.

“Abide in me, and I in you…” (John 15:4, KJV)

Joy is not something we chase, it is something that flows from connection.

Fullness of Joy

“…that your joy might be full.” (John 15:11, KJV)

God’s desire is not partial joy, but fullness.

“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing…” (Romans 15:13, KJV)

This kind of joy:

  • Strengthens your heart
  • Steadies your faith
  • Carries you through difficulty

Joy Strengthens You

“…for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10, KJV)

Joy is not just a feeling, it is a source of strength.

When you abide in Christ:

  • You endure more
  • You fear less
  • You stand stronger

Joy Even in Trials

“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;” (James 1:2, KJV)

This does not mean trials are easy—but it means joy is still possible because:

  • God is still present
  • God is still working
  • God is still faithful

Reflection

Joy is not found in perfect circumstances, it is found in abiding in Christ.

The question is not:

“Is everything going right?”

But:

“Am I staying close to Him?”

Because in His presence, joy is always available.

Prayer

Lord, fill me with Your joy. Help me to abide in You so that Your joy remains in me. Teach me to find joy in Your presence, not in my circumstances. Strengthen me through Your joy, even in difficult times. Let my life reflect the joy that comes from knowing You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Are you Saved?
