Key Verse: "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you." - John 15:16 KJV
Chosen by Christ
Jesus reminds us that our relationship with Him did not begin with our choice, but with His.
“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you…” (John 15:16, KJV)
This means:
- You are intentional in God’s plan
- Your life has meaning because Christ has called you
“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world…” (Ephesians 1:4, KJV)
Appointed for a Purpose
“…and ordained you…” (John 15:16, KJV)
The word ordained means appointed, set in place, given purpose.
God has not only saved you, He has assigned you.
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works…” (Ephesians 2:10, KJV)
You are God’s workmanship, designed with purpose.
Called to Bear Lasting Fruit
“…that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain…” (John 15:16, KJV)
God’s purpose for your life is not temporary impact, but lasting fruit.
This includes:
- A transformed life
- Influence on others
- Eternal impact
“…being fruitful in every good work…” (Colossians 1:10, KJV)
Abiding Fuels Purpose
Purpose is not something we achieve independently, it flows from abiding in Christ.
“…He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit…” (John 15:5, KJV)
Without abiding:
- Purpose becomes striving
- Work becomes empty
With abiding:
- Purpose becomes fruitful
- Effort becomes meaningful
Empowered Through Prayer
“…that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.” (John 15:16, KJV)
God not only gives purpose, He provides power through prayer.
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things…” (Jeremiah 33:3, KJV)
Prayer aligns us with God’s will and releases His provision.
Living with Eternal Perspective
“…be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord… your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 15:58, KJV)
When you live in your calling:
- Your efforts matter
- Your obedience counts
- Your life has eternal value
Reflection
You are not here by accident.
You are:
- Chosen by Christ
- Appointed for purpose
- Called to bear lasting fruit
The question is not:
“Do I have a purpose?”
But:
“Am I abiding in Christ so that His purpose can flow through me?”
Prayer
Lord, thank You for choosing me and giving my life purpose. Help me to abide in You so that I may bear fruit that lasts. Guide my steps, direct my heart, and use my life for Your glory. Teach me to walk in the calling You have given me. Let everything I do reflect Your purpose. In Jesus’ name, amen.
