Key Verse: "Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;"
- Ephesians 6:14 KJV
As we continue in the armor of God, we come to the breastplate of righteousness. In Ephesians 6:14, this piece of armor protects the most vital area, the heart. Spiritually, it guards our inner life: our thoughts, emotions, and convictions.
Righteousness is not something we produce on our own. It is first given to us through Christ:
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” — 2 Corinthians 5:21
Through salvation, we are clothed in Christ’s righteousness. This protects us from condemnation and accusation, which are common tactics of the enemy.
However, righteousness is also something we are called to live out daily:
“And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” — Ephesians 4:24
Living righteously means aligning our actions with God’s Word. It involves obedience, purity, and a desire to please Him in all we do.
The enemy often attacks the heart through guilt, shame, and temptation. But when we are grounded in Christ’s righteousness and walking in obedience, those attacks lose their power.
Scripture reminds us:
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” — Proverbs 4:23
The breastplate of righteousness helps us guard our hearts—keeping them pure, focused, and aligned with God.
Application
Reflect on your heart:
- Am I resting in Christ’s righteousness or trying to earn my own?
- Are there areas of my life that are not aligned with God’s Word?
- Am I guarding my heart from influences that lead me away from Him?
Today, ask God to reveal anything that needs to be made right. Walk in both the confidence of His righteousness and the commitment to live it out.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, Thank You for clothing me in the righteousness of Christ. Help me to walk in obedience and purity. Guard my heart from guilt, shame, and temptation, and strengthen me to live in a way that honors You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
