Key Verse: "Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them."
- Mark 11:24 KJV
If persistence keeps us praying, faith gives our prayers power. In Mark 11:24, Jesus teaches that believing is central to effective prayer. We are not simply to ask, we are to ask with confidence that God hears and responds.
Faith in prayer is not about demanding our will be done, but trusting that God is both able and faithful to act according to His perfect will. It is a settled assurance that God is who He says He is and will do what He has promised.
Scripture reinforces this truth:
“But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.” — James 1:6
Doubt weakens our confidence, but faith anchors our prayers. When we approach God, we must believe not only in His power, but also in His goodness and wisdom.
Faith in prayer also flows from our relationship with God:
“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:” — 1 John 5:14
This verse brings balance, our faith is not placed in outcomes we control, but in a God whose will is perfect. True faith trusts Him whether the answer is yes, no, or wait.
Jesus further emphasized the power of even small faith:
“If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed… nothing shall be impossible unto you.” — Matthew 17:20
It is not the size of our faith that matters most, but the object of our faith—God Himself.
Application
Reflect on your prayers:
- Do you truly believe God hears and answers?
- Are you praying with confidence or hesitation?
- Are your prayers aligned with God’s will?
Today, bring a request before God with renewed faith. Trust Him fully, and leave the outcome in His hands.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, Strengthen my faith as I pray. Help me to trust in Your power, Your goodness, and Your perfect will. Remove doubt from my heart, and teach me to pray with confidence in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
